Substance Use, Misuse and Addiction Prevention

This report presents the challenges related to the increase in opioid use, misuse and addiction. It notes the interplay of prevention, treatment and recovery in a continuous cycle. The report also outlines primary prevention, secondary prevention, tertiary prevention, health promotion activities, the link between early substance use and prevention of substance use disorder. It includes a system of prevention developed by IOM, NIDA and SAMHSA.
