NACoA Session 1: Why Focus on Children of Addiction? Webinar Resources
This initial session of the Eliminating the Adverse Impact of Alcohol and Drug Use on Children and Families webinar series introduced knowledge acquired through over 40 years of clinical work, developmental research and study, and examination of the environmental history of children growing up with parental addiction. The presenters, Sis Wenger, President and CEO, NACOA and Jerry Moe, National Director of Children’s Programs, Betty Ford Center, provided a deep understanding of the reality for the 1 in 4 who are COAs who experience the negative impacts resulting often in emotional trauma that can follow children into adulthood in hidden but devastating ways. Proven strategies to address this destructive, intergenerational transmission were provided.
